Day 22 - Not just another long day
After what was a good night's sleep compared to some I've had lately, I rinsed my mouth imediately with Difflam. My mouth was very dry and still very sore, but I was either begining to accept it or getting used to it.
In all I felt pretty terrible, so decided that I shouldn't ride today. While disappointed, I accepted that I would struggle to complete the journey in the heat and in my current state of fatigue. Until today, Wednesdays were my long days with chemo in the morning and radio in the afternoon. I would leave early to get to hospital for my 9.30am chemo appointment, which meant I was not subject to the hot sun so early in the morning.
Today, and for the next 4 weeks, my chemo appointment was scheduled for 10.30am now, which meant if I was to ride, I'd be subject to more heat and a higher sun, meaning I was more likely to be unable to avoid sunburn as much as I could when setting off earlier.
Vicki has arranged to have Wednesdays off so she can drive me to the hopital. Which she did today. Chemo takes around 2 hours and there is not much Vic can do. While waiting for my chemo call up, I spoke to one of my regular radiotherapy nurses, who recognised that I was there early and suggested I register for radio as soon as I'd finished. He mentioned that they sometimes have patients who don't turn up meaning they could fit me in earlier than my scheduled 3.20pm appointment.
As usual, chemo treatment was pretty tame, and by now, completely routine. When finished, I went straight into the radiotherapy day centre and waited. Sure enought, I was out again within the hour. This suited us both, because I knew it would be hard for Vicki to just sit around waiting, so we were able to get going earlier than expected, yay!

I tried to eat when I got home, but couldn't really stomach anything. I laid down and slept for the rest of the afternoon. My days are pretty much filled with hospital visits and sleeping, and not much else. I try to do a little work at times but it is difficult being motivated enough when you're constantly not feeling well and in pain.
I made a Sustagen drink and tried to drink it for dinner. I used some left over fruit salad, yoghurt and ice cream, and frankly, it tasted pretty bad. Then again, most things I put into my mouth taste pretty bad.
I spent the night watching TV and basically waiting until I was tired enough to go to bed.
I did my M&T Routine, I washed my face in salt solution and applied the anitbiotic cream, then watched some more TV. I wanted to test whether having the cocaine mouth wash prior to going to bed would help in alleviating my dry and sore mouth in the morning.
